John Butler Trio sets headlining shows, opens for DMB
The group's itinerary, which is included below, kicks off with a free, Aug. 18 performance at Boston's Copley Square Park. Subsequent stops--most of which are set at clubs and theaters--are lined up through early October.
Also on the schedule are opening stints with the Dave Matthews Band during a two-night, late-August stand in Carson, CA; and a three-night, mid-September run at the famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO.
Band namesake/singer/guitarist John Butler, drummer Michael Barker and upright bassist Shannon Birchall are backing their stateside debut, "Sunrise Over Sea," which hit U.S. stores in March.
In the group's home country--where the album first surfaced last year--the set debuted at No. 1 and earned Butler the Best Male Artist, Best Indie Release and Best Blues & Roots Album trophies at the annual ARIA Awards.
The album's No. 1 debut marked the highest Australian chart position ever achieved by an independently released artist, according to a press release.
"Sunrise Over the Sea" features the cut "Zebra," a live version of which is currently available exclusively at Apple's iTunes Music Store. The track comes with a video of the trio performing the song in Sydney.
