Nine Inch Nails, Red Hot Chili Peppers Join For Australian Tour

Nine Inch Nails and Red Hot Chili Peppers top the bill for the Y2K edition of Big Day Out, an Australian tour that's known for showcasing well-known international acts and packaging them with up-and-comers from Down Under.

Other acts that have been announced via the event's official website are The Chemical Brothers, Primal Scream, Blink 182 ex-Clash member Joe Strummer with The Mescaleros, as well as Australian acts Grinspoon, Yothu Yindi, Magic Dirt, Spiderbait and Shihad.

Other acts will be announced in the coming weeks. The tour opens on Jan. 21 in Auckland, and six cities are currently on the itinerary. Tickets go on sale Oct. 11.

Big Day Out came into existence in 1992, and took place annually until 1997. That year, the event's best-drawing venue, Sydney Showgrounds was shuttered and converted by the Fox Corp. into a film and television studio/entertainment complex. The tour was revived when new showgrounds became available on the other side of town.
