Judas Priest heads out on the highway for more shows

Reunited heavy metal superstars Judas Priest --reinvigorated by singer Rob Halford's return to the fold--are set to tackle a flood of new North American appearances supporting their latest album, "Angel of Retribution."

The album, released in March, is the first Judas Priest release since 1990's "Painkiller" to feature Halford--the band's original singer--behind the mic. Halford famously left the group in the early '90s to build his own solo career, and was replaced by Ripper Owens, whose previous experience consisted of fronting a Judas Priest cover band.

The band stumbled through much of the following decade before Halford came back to collaborate on the group's greatest-hits box set, "Metalogy," opening the doors to his eventual return. The reunited group mounted a U.S. tour last year as part of the Ozzfest lineup.

Judas Priest finished up a long U.S. trek before the new dates were finalized. The new leg is set to kick off Sept. 24 in Burgettstown, PA, and will finish up Oct. 23 in Vancouver, British Columbia.

The band is currently planning to play a string of dates in Mexico and South America before the next set of North American shows. The full tour schedule can be found at Judas Priest's website.
