'N Sync's "No Strings Attached" May Set Weekly Sales Record

'N Sync's second album, "No Strings Attached," sold over a million copies its first day out, making it a likely candidate to set a new weekly album sales record. New information about the band's tour, television appearances and a concert webcast have also been announced.

The sales figure was announced in a press release from MCY.com, which is sponsoring the upcoming 'N Sync tour. Jive Records shipped 4.2 million copies of the album to retailers for the first week, according to Billboard, which reported national retail sales figures of 950,000 units for the first day.

That tally did not include figures from regional chains and independent stores. It is possible that those sales will boost the album to the record level set by Backstreet Boys' "Millennium," which sold 1.13 million copies last May. SoundScan, which keeps track of album sales, does not report daily figures, only weekly ones.

On the tour front, Madison Square Garden has confirmed that tickets to its July 25 and 26 shows will go on sale at noon EST on March 26, not on March 25. Dates in most other cities will go on sale March 25.

Jive Records has announced new promotional television appearances for band, including an entire episode of ''Donny & Marie'' (April 28) and a Nickelodeon Special (April 29). Previously announced appearances are Nickelodeon's ''All That'' (March 25), the Academy Awards show (March 26), ABC's ''The View'' (March 27) and ''The Tonight Show with Jay Leno'' (April 4).

Tour sponsor MCY.com plans to record concert footage, interviews and backstage footage of the band during the tour. The website will edit the material and sell it as a webcast, just as it is doing for Pete Townshend's "Lifehouse" project.

MCY.com will give away "meet-and-greets" with 'N Sync, but details have not been announced.
