Brazilian Girls swing into fall tour schedule

Fresh off a busy summer touring in support of their debut, self-titled album, dance-popsters Brazilian Girls have set up a string of dates across 16 cities, taking them well into fall.

The band--which isn't Brazilian and features only one girl, singer Sabina Sciubba--will get things going with an Aug. 30 appearance in Solana Beach, CA, and end up with an Oct. 16 date in Orlando, FL. The itinerary includes a Sept. 5 appearance at Seattle's Bumbershoot Festival.

Brazilian Girls' eponymous debut was released in February, and the band has since drawn notice for its unusual mixture of dub, reggae, jazz and pop sounds. The ARTISTdirect Network recently named "Brazilian Girls" its No. 1 album so far in 2005.

The 12-song album includes tracks sung in five different languages: English, German, French, Italian, and Spanish. It was self-produced by the band, and engineered by Hector Castillo, who's worked with Bebel Gilberto and Phillip Glass.

The four members of Brazilian Girls met in 2003 while jamming together at a New York dance club, according to a press release. The newly formed group (Sciubba, keyboardist Didi Gutman, bassist Jesse Murphy, and drummer Aaron Johnston) began playing together on a weekly basis, producing the tracks that would eventually form their debut album.
