Velvet Revolver drummer sidelined as tour continues
Velvet Revolver skins-basher Matt Sorum will have to sit out the band's upcoming round of headlining dates while he recovers from a fractured hand.
The drummer suffered the injury during a recent boating accident, according to RCA Records. No further details were provided.
Sorum's bandmates--singer Scott Weiland, guitarists Slash and Dave Kushner, and bassist Duff McKagan--will forge ahead with a series of seven August arena dates that kick off Aug. 11, but they have not yet announced a temporary replacement drummer.
Sorum, meanwhile, is undergoing physical therapy and plans to return to the fray in time for Velvet Revolver's stint on this summer's Ozzfest tour. The group joins that bill Aug. 23 in Albuquerque and remains on board through the tour's Sept. 4 conclusion in West Palm Beach, FL.
The band also plans to squeeze in a Sept. 3 headlining show in Jacksonville, FL, during an off-day from the Ozzfest tour. The itinerary is included below.
Velvet Revolver continues to back its debut set, last year's chart-topping "Contraband," which spawned the Grammy-winning single "Slither." A new song from the group, titled "Come In, Come On," turns up on the "Fantastic Four" soundtrack, which landed in stores last month.
