Ozzy misses Ozzfest dates, postpones tour stop
Throat problems caused Ozzy Osbourne to miss three recent dates on his Ozzfest tour, and have resulted in the postponement of this weekend's planned stop in Wisconsin.
The postponed show, set for Sunday (8/7) at Float Rite Park in Somerset, WI, will now take place Sept. 10, according to the venue. Tickets for the original date will be honored at the make-up show, and refunds are available at the point of purchase.
"Doctors have advised Ozzy not to perform multiple nights in a row for fear that he might permanently damage his voice," read a statement posted at the venue's website.
"You gotta do Ozzfest with Ozzy," Minneapolis promoter Randy Levy told the Star Tribune newspaper. "We're going to lose some of the bands [for the rescheduled date] and add some others. We'll know in the next 10 days."
Osbourne--who, along with his original band, Black Sabbath , is slated as the tour's headliner--sat out Ozzfest's July 27 stop in Indianapolis, July 30 stop in Holmdel, NJ, and Aug. 2 stop in Columbus, OH. Iron Maiden , which normally appears prior to Sabbath, took over the headlining slot on those dates, and fans were offered ticket refunds.
The downtime allowed Osbourne enough rest to perform at the tour's Wednesday (8/3) stop in Detroit, according to Ozzfest's website, and, at press time, Saturday's show at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, WI, was still scheduled to take place.
Ozzfest kicked off in mid-July, and is scheduled to wrap up in early September. The itinerary is shown below.
In addition to Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden, the tour--which features two stages--also features Mudvayne, Shadows Fall, Black Label Society and Rob Zombie, among others.
Velvet Revolver will take over Iron Maiden's slot from Aug. 23 to Sept. 4.
