Nickel Creek rolls through the U.S. to back new set
Bluegrass purveyors Nickel Creek are set to drop their third album, "Why Should the Fire Die?" on Tuesday (8/9), and will tour extensively this fall to support the set.
The trek launches Sept. 30 with a two-night stand in Burlington, VT, and 50-plus dates are planned through the end of the year.
"Why Should the Fire Die" was produced by Eric Valentine (Smash Mouth, Third Eye Blind) and Tony Berg (X, Squeeze), who recorded the set on analog gear. The band stuck with traditional bluegrass instrumentation: mandolin, guitar, violin and bass.
"Seeing the band live is a powerful experience," Valentine said in a press release. "There are moments where they are just explosive on-stage, and I wanted that in the record. I wanted moments on this record, moments where you think, how can three people and their instruments sound this big?"
The album includes 13 originals, plus a cover of Bob Dylan's "Tomorrow is a Long Time."
The new set is the follow-up to 2002's "This Side," which won the Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album.
