OK Go ready, set for new album, tour dates
Power-pop foursome OK Go will set out in late August on a brief trek in support of their sophomore studio effort, starting with an Aug. 23 date in Houston.
Current plans are for the band to hit 13 cities during its fall outing, ending with a Sept. 10 show in Tempe, AZ. Capitol label-mates and fellow Chicagoans The Redwalls will support the band on the tour.
OK Go is set to release "Oh No" on Aug. 30, the follow-up to its 2002 self-titled breakout album. The disc was recorded in Malmo, Sweden, with Franz Ferdinand producer Tore Johansson behind the boards.
According to OK Go's website, Johansson informed the band right off the bat that its new album was going to be about getting back to the basics. "You will go into a room together and you will rock," Johansson told them.
"We wanted to make an album that sounds like our band, and not a heady, self-conscious studio project," lead singer Damian Kulash said on the website. "Everyone tells us rock and roll is a shadow of itself--a sad old milk cow smiling at the farmer every morning. We still see a bucking bull smashing around the stable."
