NY State Troopers Disciplined For Improper Behavior At Woodstock '99
Ten New York state troopers and two supervisors have been disciplined following investigations into newspaper accounts of troopers cavorting with women in various stages of undress at Woodstock '99.
The first incident, initially detailed by a Syracuse newspaper report, involved a group of troopers who allegedly asked two young women to take off their clothes and pose for photographs with them. The women complied.
After publication of the story, the supervisor on duty reportedly was immediately suspended. After further investigation, the supervisor was given a one-step demotion. Six troopers accepted multiple-day suspensions and censures, according to the Albany Times Union.
The second incident stemmed from a photograph that ran in August in the New York Post, which showed a group of topless women washing a state police car. Four troopers and a supervisor were handed suspensions and censures for their alleged part in that incident.
About 500 state troopers were called in to quell rioting during the closing day of the July 23-25 festival in Rome, N.Y.
Shortly after the festival concluded, reports of eight alleged rapes and sexual assaults on concert-goers surfaced.
This week, the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network announced that Hybrid/Epic Records and Woodstock '99 will donate a portion of the proceeds from the forthcoming Woodstock '99 album and video to RAINN, which operates a free hotline for victims of sexual assault. ''It's hard to even describe how we felt when we first heard reports of rapes at Woodstock," John Scher, the president of Woodstock co-promoter Metropolitan Entertainment Group, said in a statement. "We worked so hard to make sure that all aspects of the festival were taken care of, so the fans could have fun and be safe. Then something like this happens. We were disgusted -- and we felt we had to do something to make sure this never happens again."
The Woodstock '99 double-volume CD and cassette, as well as a Woodstock '99 video, are scheduled or release on Oct. 19.
The 32-track CD includes performances by Korn , The Offspring , Lit , Buckcherry , Kid Rock , Limp Bizkit, Rage Against the Machine, Creed, Sevendust, DMX Godsmack, Megadeth, Bush, Live, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews Band, Brian Setzer Orchestra, Jewel, Everlast, Everclear, Sheryl Crow, Elvis Costello, Alanis Morissette, Jamiroquai, G. Love & Special Sauce, Chemical Brothers, The Roots, Guster, Our Lady Peace, Rusted Root and Bruce Hornsby.
