Gang of Four regroups for the fall
Political post-punk band Gang of Four reunited earlier this year with a high-profile gig at the Coachella fest and a round of spring tour dates, setting the stage for a just-announced fall outing.
Though Gang of Four had not played together since the early 1980s, the band's legend grew throughout the '80s, '90s and into this decade. Music journalists repeatedly note the band's influences on contemporary musicians such as Franz Ferdinand, The Futureheads and The Rapture.
Gang of Four--originally formed in Leeds, England in 1977--recently re-recorded tracks from its classic records--"Entertainment," "Solid Gold" and "Songs of the Free"--for a two-disc set titled "Return the Gift," set to be released Oct. 11 in the U.S. The second disc in the package will feature selected GoF tracks recorded by contemporary artists including Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Dandy Warhols.
The album's release coincides with the fall tour, which features original GoF members Jon King, Andy Gill, Dave Allen and Hugo Burnham. The outing starts on the East Coast and then heads across the States, stopping primarily in major markets.
Stops will include Philadelphia, New Orleans, Houston and Los Angeles. The band will also play Brooklyn, NY, at the Across the Pond Festival at Keyspan Park. The 17-date outing wraps up Oct. 21 in Anaheim, CA.
