Black Crowes to follow Petty tour with more shows
Currently on the road as the show-openers for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Black Crowes plan to keep their reunion tour rolling with a series of fall concerts.
The group--which wraps up its stint with Petty during a Sept. 2-3 stand at The Gorge in George, WA--has so far mapped a mix of festival appearances and headlining shows that stretches from early September into mid-October. Details are included below.
In January, Black Crowes founders Chris Robinson (vocals) and Rich Robinson (guitar) announced plans to resurrect the group after a nearly four-year hiatus for a multi-night stand at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom. The initial five shows sold out "just minutes after going on sale," according to a press release issued at the time, and two more dates were added.
The success of the Big Apple outing led to a full-blown headlining tour in the spring, followed by the group's turn on Petty's summer outing.
In addition to the Robinson brothers, The Black Crowes' current lineup features original drummer Steve Gorman; guitarist Marc Ford (who was fired from the band in 1997) and keyboardist Eddie Hawysch (aka Eddi Harsch), both of whom joined the group after its debut album and tour in 1990; and bassist Sven Pipien, who first joined the group in 1997.
The success of their reunion has led to the Crowes "being pursued by the major and indie record labels and publishing companies to sign new deals," but the group has "chosen to remain free agents in control of their own destiny," according to a press release. No word yet on whether the band plans to record a new album.
