Aqualung dives into a fall U.S. tour
England's Aqualung is set to headline a VH1 sponsored fall tour that also features The Perishers and Tracy Bonham.
The tour makes stops in major markets across the states, including Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas and New York City.
Aqualung has spent some time touring the U.S., but until this year had only released albums in the U.K. Matt Hales, the band's driving force, combined the best tracks from his two U.K. releases--2002's "Aqualung" and 2003's "Still Life"--for his first American release, "Strange & Beautiful."
Hales grew up a child prodigy who wrote his first songs at the age of 4, according to his bio. By 17, his first symphony was performed by a 60-piece orchestra, and he hasn't looked back since. His previous band, the Britpop act The 45s, broke up in 2002.
Hales recently taped three performances for "Live @ VH1," including "Strange & Beautiful (I'll Put a Spell on You)," the song that broke Aqualung in the U.K. Another track recorded for "Live" is Aqualung's first American single, "Brighter than Sunshine." That song is also featured in the film "A Lot Like Love," staring Ashton Kutcher and Amanda Peet. The DVD edition of the movie, slated for release Aug. 23, will feature an exclusive film-related version of the "Brighter than Sunshine" video.
A live version of "Brighter than Sunshine," recorded at the Shepherd's Bush Empire theater in London, is part of a new Aqualung EP, available for download exclusively on Apple Computer's iTunes Music Store.
