Club tour, new album ahead for Ashlee Simpson

Pop singer Ashlee Simpson is sketching out a club tour to advance the release of her sophomore album, "I Am Me," due in stores Oct. 18.

Nine September and early October dates have so far been announced via Simpson's website, beginning with a Sept. 21 gig in Portland, OR. Simpson is also scheduled to perform gigs Friday and Saturday (8/26-27) at amusement parks in Florida and Georgia.

The first single from "I Am Me" is titled "Boyfriend." A clip from the track, as well as the song's lyrics, are posted at Simpson's site.

Simpson's debut set, last year's "Autobiography," entered The Billboard 200 album chart at No. 1, and is certified triple-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America for shipping more than 3 million copies in the U.S.

Earlier this month, Simpson--the younger sister of Jessica Simpson--told Billboard she'd like to return to host and perform on NBC-TV's "Saturday Night Live"--scene of her October 2004 lip-syncing gaffe--in conjunction with her new album's release. "It's not confirmed yet, but I want to do it," she said.
