Dave Matthews Breaks Ribs, Adds Show, Sets Openers

Dave Matthews was diagnosed late last week with a pair of broken ribs, the result of a bizarre accident that involved Matthews tripping over his guitar case to catch a grape in his mouth. The events transpired at a New York party in honor of Santana, who had just finished opening a string of stadium dates on the band's spring / summer tour.

Matthews' publicist confirmed the broken ribs, but noted that no shows would be affected.

The band has added an August 1st date at Bristow, VA's Nissan Pavilion to their itinerary. The show falls into their loop back up the East Coast, where the tour currently ends with a two-night stay in Hartford, CT.

Opening acts have been confirmed for dates through late July. The Neville Brothers will open this week's shows, followed by former Allman Brothers guitarist Warren Haynes' Gov't. Mule from 6/14 through 6/20.

The Iguanas will open the remainder of June, after which Jimmy Cliff will open through July 17th. Alanis Morissette and Big Head Todd & the Monsters will open a stadium show in Denver on July 20th, and Ozomatli will then open through July 28th, except for July 24th, when the Dave Matthews Band plays at Woodstock.

Matthews currently has two albums in the Billboard Top 100, Before These Crowded Streets, which is climbing again after over a year on the chart, and Live at Luther College, which was recorded with acoustic counterpart Tim Reynolds.
