Briefly: R.L. Burnside, Dave Matthews Band, Fats Domino, Voodoo Music Experience
Burnside, born Nov. 21, 1926, in Harmontown, MS, died at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, TN, according to a statement from his label, Fat Possum Records.
Burnside's recording career began in 1968, but he didn't achieve fame outside of Mississippi until he recorded the crossover collaboration "A Ass Pocket of Whiskey" with the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. Music from his subsequent album, "Come On," was featured in several movies and television shows, including "The Sopranos."
Dave Matthews Band has announced plans for a Sept. 12 concert at Colorado's Red Rocks Amphitheatre aimed at raising funds to assist victims of Hurricane Katrina.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the communities that have been affected by Katrina," the group said in a statement. "The devastation and human loss is heart breaking. We thank [Denver] Mayor [John] Hickenlooper and [concert promoter] Chuck Morris for their efforts in making this benefit concert a reality in such a short period of time."
Tickets for the show go on sale Sept. 7 via Ticketmaster, according to a press release. A limited number of VIP tickets will be available, while tickets for the remaining seats will cost $58.50. Ticketmaster and Dave Matthews Band's direct ticketing company, Musictoday, will be donating their applicable services charges per ticket. (Ticketmaster is liveDaily's parent company.)
