Switchfoot lines up club dates to back 'Nothing'
San Diego rock band Switchfoot has penciled in fall dates for a tour backing the release of its forthcoming album "Nothing is Sound."
The album, due in stores Sept. 13, is the follow-up to Switchfoot's multiplatinum breakthrough album, "The Beautiful Letdown," which spawned the hits "Dare You to Move" and "Meant to Live." "Stars," the first single from "Nothing is Sound," was the most added record at modern rock radio at the end of June, according to a press release.
"Nothing is Sound" will be available as both a traditional CD and as a DualDisc featuring the entire album in 5.1 Surround Sound, plus behind-the-scenes footage of the band on the road and in the studio.
"This record was written in back alleys and hotel rooms far from home," frontman and primary songwriter Jon Foreman said in a statement explaining the difference between "Nothing Is Sound" and its predecessor.
"It's more eclectic, less settled, with more dissonance. We've tried to capture the emotional ride that happens on stage and put it into the studio. Playing that hard every night really stretches you, and all these diverse experiences have played a key role in shaping this record."
The band recorded the album at various sites around the world, ranging from South Africa to Foreman's San Diego bedroom. John Fields, who turned the knobs for "The Beautiful Letdown," produced the "Nothing is Sound" sessions.
"If you can combine the more-professional-sounding elements with the honesty of doing it yourself, those are the best records," Foreman said in a press release. "They're honest and pure but listenable."
