Tracy Chapman backs new album with roadwork

Singer/songwriter Tracy Chapman has mapped a round of October tour dates to back her soon-to-be-released album, "Where You Live."

Chapman's coast-to-coast itinerary spans about two weeks, beginning Oct. 5 in Seattle and wrapping up Oct. 21 in New York City. Details are included below.

Chapman will follow her brief U.S. tour with a European outing, details about which are posted at Atlantic Records' website.

Scheduled for release on Sept. 13, "Where You Live" is Chapman's first new studio set since 2002's "Let It Rain." She co-produced the new album with sound-engineer/mixer Tchad Blake (Los Lobos, Pearl Jam) at "an improvised San Francisco rehearsal space-turned-studio that inspired the singer and her accompanists to stretch out both musically and spiritually," according to a press release.

Chapman rose to fame on the strength of her self-titled, 1988 debut album, which featured the runaway hit "Fast Car." The set has sold more than 6 million copies in the U.S. to date. She also enjoyed widespread success with her 1996 album, "New Beginning," which spawned the Top 10 single "Give Me One Reason"; the album has shipped five million copies in the U.S., according to the Recording Industry Association of America.
