Stars come out for 'Shelter from the Storm' benefit

U2 , Dixie Chicks , Paul Simon , Neil Young , Alicia Keys, Sheryl Crow and Rod Stewart are among the musical acts scheduled to appear on Friday night's (9/9) hurricane-relief telethon "Shelter from the Storm - A Concert for the Gulf Coast."

The one-hour, commercial free program--which will benefit efforts by the American Red Cross and the Salvation Army to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina--will be simulcast at 8 p.m. Eastern and Pacific times on the ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, UPN and WB networks, as well as PBS and many cable outlets.

The telethon's lineup is also expected to include rapper Kanye West , who went off-script during last week's hurricane-relief benefit show on NBC-TV and said that "George Bush doesn't care about black people."

Joel Gallen, who also produced the post-9/11 telethon "America: A Tribute to Heroes," is also executive producer of "Shelter from the Storm."

Like the post-9/11 program, the hurricane-relief show will feature musical performances and celebrity appearances. Among the celebrities to appear on the "Shelter" benefit are Cameron Diaz, Jack Nicholson, Ray Romano, Chris Rock, Sela Word, Ellen DeGeneres and Jennifer Anniston.
