Pavement Contradicts Rumors, Says It Isn't Disbanding
Though Pavement 's members are taking a break following a flurry of touring activity behind the album "Terror Twilight," the band isn't breaking up, according to a statement posted this week on the band's official website.
''Contrary to what has been said, Pavement are not breaking up,'' the statement reads. ''They are taking a much needed rest as they do at the end of every touring year. They would like to thank all of those who have supported them this year as in the past. They will be back sooner than you know. In the meantime, Pavement will be working on ''The Slow Century'' video and DVD compilation to be released sometime in the new century.''
A spokesperson for the band's British label, Domino Records, did not precisely confirm the band's statement, but told the British music magazine NME that the band is ''retiring for the foreseeable future to: 1. Start families. 2. Sail around the world. 3. Get into the computer industry. 4. Dance. 5. Get some attention.''
Rumors of an imminent Pavement breakup have circulated many times in past years, but the band has always continued. The release of ''Terror Twilight'' was accompanied by several reports, which the band denied, that the album would be Pavement's last.
