Motley Crue tour continues in wake of singer's injury
Motley Crue frontman Vince Neil suffered a leg injury during the band's performance in Atlanta on Friday (9/16), but the group plans to forge ahead with the rest of the tour.
The Crue was five songs into its performance at Atlanta's Phillips Arena when Neil tore a calf muscle, according to a press release.
"I just felt something snap in my leg, like a cramp," Neil said in a statement. "I just couldn't go on."
"... After we finished the song without [Neil], we went backstage where he was surrounded by paramedics," Crue bassist Nikki Sixx wrote in a post at his official website. "They said he probably tore something in his calf and he needed to go to the hospital right away. He wanted to go back onstage, but to be honest he couldn't even stand."
The group plans to reschedule the Atlanta show, and tickets for the original performance will be honored on the yet-to-be-announced make-up date, according to organizers.
Neil, who "partially tore the medial portion of his calf muscle," is expected to make a "full and quick recovery," according to a press release, but was urged by his doctors to take some time off. Nonetheless, he has chosen to disregard that advice.
"He will be able to perform, but can't really jump around until it heals," Sixx added in a statement. "Luckily, we have a few days off here and there for him to recover."
After a planned day off on Saturday (9/17), the band--which said it doesn't intend to cancel any shows due to Neil's injury--continued the tour with its next scheduled stop in Memphis on Sunday (9/18). The group is off today (9/19), and is scheduled to return to the stage in Louisville, KY, on Tuesday (9/20).
Motley Crue is in the midst of a massive reunion tour that kicked off in late February. The group's North American run wraps up in mid-October, after which the band will open a pair of shows for The Rolling Stones . Details appear in the itinerary below.
A swing through Japan and Australia is lined up for November and December. Information on those tour dates is posted at the Crue's website.
