Briefly: Paul Wall, Trisha Yearwood, Green Day, CMT
Houston rapper Paul Wall 's "The Peoples Champ" leads a pack of new albums into the Top 5 on the forthcoming Billboard 200 chart.
Wall's latest set--which moved about 177,000 copies, according to Asylum Records--bows at No. 1, and knocks fellow rapper Kanye West's "Late Registration," which debuted in the top slot last week, into the No. 2 position.
San Diego rockers Switchfoot follow with the No. 3 debut of their latest offering, "Nothing Is Sound," while Trisha Yearwood 's "Jasper Country" enters the chart at No. 4. Pussycat Dolls' "PCD" rounds things out with its No. 5 debut.
Trisha Yearwood has scrapped plans for a Wednesday (9/21) appearance on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno," as well as her Thursday (9/22) concert in Los Angeles, in the wake of her father's death. Jack H. Yearwood, 72, died Tuesday (9/20) in Monticello, GA, according to a press release.
Green Day has nailed down a Nov. 15 release date for "Bullet In A Bible," a live CD/DVD that documents the group's June 11-12 headlining performances at London's Milton Keynes National Bowl, where the trio played for a crowd of more than 130,000 people according to Reprise Records.
Citing concerns over Hurricane Rita--which, at press time, was a Category 5 hurricane expected to make landfall along the Texas coastline--organizers have postponed the CMT One Country benefit concert. Originally scheduled to take place Oct. 1 at Houston's Reliant Stadium, the event--which has not yet been rescheduled--was slated to feature performances from George Strait , Willie Nelson, Martina McBride, ZZ Top, Kenny Chesney, and Alan Jackson, among others.
"The potential danger posed by Hurricane Rita and her aftermath will not allow the window of time necessary to create a show of this magnitude," organizers said in a statement. "CMT, along with Louis Messina of The Messina Group, has determined that the risks are too great to artists, vendors and volunteers to commit their efforts to this endeavor at this time."
Ticketholders are encouraged to hold on to their tickets for the yet-to-be-rescheduled show.
