Camper Van Beethoven, Cracker set individual tours
David Lowery will split his time between Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven this fall. The vocalist/guitarist first leads Cracker on a brief tour that launches in late October before hitting the road with Camper in mid-November.
The first run will feature what is being billed as the "Cracker Acoustic Duo," which will also consist of co-founding Cracker guitarist Johnny Hickman, and will start on Oct. 27 in Little Rock, AR. The trek will then wind its way through several Midwest cities before coming to a close on Nov. 4 in Chicago.
Ten days later, Lowery will jump ship and help Camper Van Beethoven kick off its tour opener Nov. 14 in Monterey, CA. The band will remain on (or near) the West Coast for five more dates, including the Nov. 19 tour closer in Santa Rosa, CA.
The complete itinerary for both tours is listed below.
While leading two tours with two different bands in less than one month might seem like exhausting work to some, Lowery has definitely seen more-difficult working conditions. The singer and other mutual members have routinely pulled double duty, performing with both Cracker and Camper on the same night, during the bands' co-headlining tours over the past two years.
Best known for its 1993-hit "Low," Cracker's last release was 2003's "Countrysides." The set features cover versions of eight of the group's favorite country songs, as well as a new cut titled "Ain't Gonna Suck Itself," in which the group vents about Virgin Records; Virgin dropped the band after releasing 1998's "Gentleman's Blues."
Camper Van Beethoven originally split in 1990, but Lowery reunited with some of the members in 1999 to assemble a collection of rarities and live cuts, entitled "Camper Van Beethoven Is Dead, Long Live Camper Van Beethoven." In 2004, the band released a well-received album of new material that boasted the clever title "New Roman Times."
