Mos Def and Talib Kweli embark on 'Odyssey'
Rappers Mos Def and Talib Kweli will rhyme their way down the West Coast and into the Southwest on a co-headlining tour that kicks off on Halloween weekend.
Roughly the first half of the outing--dubbed the Breed Love Odyssey Tour--will be spent in California. The run through the Golden State starts Oct. 28 in Sacramento and winds up in San Diego on Nov. 5. The tour will then hit the Southwest for a half-dozen shows, ending the tour Nov. 14 in Houston.
The trek will see the rappers perform two-night stands in San Francisco (Oct. 29-30) and Denver (Nov. 10-11). Def and Kweli will also perform two-shows-per-night at the House of Blues venues in Anaheim and San Diego on, respectively, Nov. 4 and 5.
Rounding out the bill are newcomer Jean Grae and New York-based underground lyricist Pharoahe Monch . The complete tour itinerary is listed below.
Mos Def and Kweli are longtime musical collaborators who first came into prominence in the '90s as members of the socially conscious hip-hop troupe Black Star. After a lengthy split, the band reunited this past spring to perform at the Coachella Valley Music Festival.
Since leaving Black Star, both artists have achieved successful solo careers.
Although Mos Def is a talented rapper--whose second solo release, "The New Danger," was nominated for a 2005 Grammy for Best Alternative/Urban Performance--he's now best known as an actor, having been featured in such high-profile recent films as "The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy" and "The Italian Job."
Kweli, who is one of hip-hop's most celebrated lyricists, received mostly rave reviews for his last record, 2004's "The Beautiful Struggle."
