Black Crowes book Big Apple New Year's Eve show
The Black Crowes , whose soon-to-end reunion tour started in New York City earlier this year, will head back to that city to cap 2005 with a New Year's Eve performance that will also feature My Morning Jacket and North Mississippi Allstars.
The Dec. 31 show will take place at Madison Square Garden, and tickets are scheduled to hit the box office Saturday (10/22) at 9 a.m. ET. The concert will be the band's first-ever headlining performance at the venue, according to a press release.
Back in January of this year, Black Crowes founders Chris Robinson (vocals) and Rich Robinson (guitar) announced plans to resurrect the group for a multi-night stand at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom. The initial five shows sold out, and two more dates were added. The string of March performances ended a nearly four-year hiatus for the group.
The success of the Big Apple outing led to a full-blown headlining tour in the spring, and an opening slot on Tom Petty's summer outing.
The group is nearing the end of its latest round of headlining dates, which continue with a five-night run at Los Angeles' Henry Fonda Theatre this week, and wraps up in Chicago on Halloween. Details are included below.
The shows at the Henry Fonda Theatre will be recorded and sold via Instant Live's website. Several shows from the current tour are already available at the site.
In August, the group played a sold-out, five-night stand at San Francisco's Fillmore. The shows were filmed for an upcoming DVD, according to the band's publicist. No release date has been announced.
In addition to the Robinson brothers, The Black Crowes' current lineup features original drummer Steve Gorman; guitarist Marc Ford (who was fired from the band in 1997) and keyboardist Eddie Hawysch (aka Eddi Harsch), both of whom joined the group after its debut album and tour in 1990; and bassist Sven Pipien, who first joined the group in 1997.
The group's plans following the New Year's Eve gig remain a mystery.
"The Black Crowes look forward to ending this year by celebrating on New Year's Eve with their fans at their first-ever Madison Square Garden headlining show," manager Pete Angelus said in a statement. "At this point in time, we have not discussed any future domestic touring plans. It has always been our intention to gauge the future of the band, not by the memories and successes of the past, but rather by the group's collective feelings of the present."
