Merle Haggard plots live dates
Country music legend Merle Haggard has lassoed up a batch of dates in support of his new CD, "Chicago Wind."
The vocalist will spend the rest of October touring the Midwest, Southwest and Southeast and then perform a handful on November dates in scattered locales. He has also announced a trio of West Coast shows for February 2006. All shows will feature Haggard's longtime band, The Strangers.
Earlier this year, Haggard made the news when he spent much of the spring opening shows for Bob Dylan (who has also toured this year with Willie Nelson). The country singer will add another Rock and Roll Hall of Fame-member notch on his belt by setting the table for The Rolling Stones at American Airlines Arena in Dallas on Nov. 29.
The complete tour itinerary is listed below.
Haggard's latest album marks a return to performing the type of country originals that have made him one of the most acclaimed singer/songwriters of the last 40 years. "Chicago Wind" is full of both ballads, like "Leavin's Not the Only Way to Go" and "What I've Been Meaning to Say," and politically charged tracks, such as "Rebuild America First" and "Where's All the Freedom."
His previous album, 2004's "Unforgettable," saw Haggard tackle such sentimental classics from the Great American Songbook as "As Time Goes By" and "Stardust."
