Briefly: OutKast, Phish, James Taylor, Imogen Heap
A Dec. 6 release date has been set for OutKast 's next album, "Idlewild," which will also serve as the soundtrack to an HBO produced/Universal distributed motion picture of the same name.
According to the rap duo's label, a limited-edition version of the CD will be packaged with a bonus DVD, and the album's first video will surface Nov. 7.
New singles from OutKast's Andre 3000 and Big Boi will be shipped to radio "asap," according to the label.
The OutKast film is scheduled to hit theaters Jan. 6.
Erstwhile jam-band Phish marks the 10th anniversary of its New Year's Eve 1995 performance at Madison Square Garden with the release of a deluxe, three-CD set that includes the complete three-set performance.
"New Year's Eve 1995 - Live at Madison Square Garden"--which contains 27 tracks and spans more than three-and-a-half hours--is scheduled to reach stores Dec. 20.
James Taylor will be honored as the 2006 MusiCares Person of the Year during a tribute dinner concert and silent auction set for Feb. 6, two nights before the Recording Academy hands out its Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.
"MusiCares and The Recording Academy take great pride in honoring James Taylor as an extraordinary human being, musician and humanitarian who has made a global impact on music and culture," MusiCares President Neil Portnow said in a press release. "As the quintessential singer/songwriter, he embodies the creative spirit that is the hallmark of our finest and most enduring musical icons. His impact on the music and culture of our era has been enormous, and we welcome this opportunity to pay fitting tribute to a voice that continues to resonate within our community."
The Recording Academy's MusiCares Foundation is non-profit organization that "provides a safety net of critical assistance for music people in times of need," according to a press release.
British singer/songwriter Imogen Heap has lined up a single U.S. concert on each coast. She'll play an Oct. 26 set at the Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles, and follow it with an Oct. 30 concert at New York City's Canal Room.
After spending recent years as a member of the trip-pop duo Frou Frou, Heap has again gone solo. Her second solo album, "Speak for Yourself," will reach U.S. stores Nov. 1.
