Great Big Sea makes waves with new album, tour
Celtic rockers Great Big Sea will get the New Year started with a lengthy North American tour that backs their just-released album, "The Hard and the Easy."
The Canadian outfit has mapped an itinerary that kicks off in its homeland at the end of January, and winds through both the U.S. and Canada through early May. Plans include two-night stands in Nova Scotia, the Boston area and the band's native Newfoundland. Details are included below.
On Tuesday (10/25), Great Big Sea released "The Hard and the Easy," its eighth album. The set--which debuted at No. 3 on the Canadian album chart earlier this month--is billed as the group's "first-ever all-traditional, all-Newfoundland album," according to the band's website.
"We always wanted to do this kind of album," guitarist Alan Doyle said in a statement. "The fans ask for it, certainly, but it is more about the quality of the songs. This music is what made us most special, most unique."
"The Hard and the Easy" follows 2003's "Sea of No Cares," which debuted at No. 1 on the Canadian charts.
