Bruce Springsteen headed for big, small screens

Portions of two DVDs that will be packaged with the forthcoming 30th anniversary edition of Bruce Springsteen 's landmark "Born to Run" album have been edited for upcoming showings at movie theaters and a PBS special.

The big-screen version will be screened Nov. 14 at select Regal, United Artists, Edwards and Georgia Theatre Company movie theaters. Participating theater locations and ticket information will be posted Nov. 4 at www.BigScreenConcerts.com, according to the site. The showings will feature live performances from the "1975 Hammersmith Odeon" DVD, as well some highlights from the DVD documentary "Wings for Wheels: The Making of Born to Run."

A separate edit of material from the Hammersmith concert will air on PBS stations during December under the title "Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band: Hammersmith Odeon, London '75." Specific airtimes will vary.

Columbia Records has set a Nov. 15 release date for a three-disc, 30th anniversary edition of "Born to Run." The box set--the production of which was supervised by Springsteen and his longtime manager, Jon Landau--features a newly remastered CD of the "Born to Run" album.

Highlighting the package is the "Hammersmith" DVD, which captures a storied Springsteen and the E Street Band performance at the venue. Though pieces of the concert have turned up in various forms over the years, the DVD features all 16 songs played at the show in sequence. Footage from multiple cameras was pieced together by Thom Zinny and his team, who cleaned the original negatives and digitally restored the film. Zinny won an Emmy for his work on Springsteen's "Live in New York" TV special. Producer Bob Clearmountain, who has a long history with Springsteen, remastered and remixed the DVD in both stereo and 5.1 surround sound.

A second DVD contains the 90-minute documentary "Wings for Wheels: The Making of 'Born to Run.'" The film features some previously unreleased archival material, including "substantial footage" of Springsteen and the E Street Band recording the album, and exclusive footage of Springsteen playing solo-piano and guitar versions of tracks from "Born to Run," according to a press release. The documentary also includes newly filmed interviews with Springsteen and current and former E Street Band members about the recording of the album.

Rounding out the set is a 48-page booklet of previously unpublished photographs.

Springsteen is currently in the midst of a solo tour in support of his latest album, "Devils and Dust."
