Hurricane aftermath derails Depeche Mode's tour launch

Depeche Mode , which was due to kick off a world tour in the Ft. Lauderdale area on Wednesday (11/2) night, has canceled the gig because of the fallout from Hurricane Wilma.

Citing "post-hurricane safety issues" that included "area power outages and curfew limitations," according to a press release, the group pulled the plug on the show, which was to take place at the BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, FL.

"Depeche Mode was excited to launch the tour in South Florida," Jonathan Kessler, the band's longtime manager, said in a statement. "However, they're not willing to jeopardize the safety of their fans, who would be putting themselves at risk traveling to and from the event under dangerous conditions."

Tickets for Wednesday's show will now be honored for Thursday's (11/3) previously scheduled performance at the St. Pete Times Forum in St. Petersburg, FL, according to organizers. Ticketholders for Wednesday's show who can't make it to the St. Pete concert can obtain a refund at the point of purchase.

Depeche Mode is hitting the road behind its recently released album, "Playing the Angel," which surfaced last month and debuted at No. 7 on the latest Billboard 200 album chart. The group is scheduled to tour the U.S. through early December.
