Briefly: 'Come Together,' Grokster, Yellowcard, Thrill Kill Kult
Kanye West , R. Kelly , Faith Hill , B.B. King, Josh Groban and Clint Black are among the artists who have contributed to the benefit album "Hurricane Relief: Come Together Now," due in stores Nov. 22.
According to a press release, the two-disc, 35-song collection will include "new recordings and classic cuts from more than 80 artists, spanning a variety of generations and genres."
All proceeds will aid relief efforts for Gulf Coast victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
Owners of the popular Grokster peer-to-peer network closed the site Monday (11/7) as part of the settlement of a copyright-infringement case filed by record companies, music publishers and movie studios.
Under the settlement, Grokster reportedly also must pay $50 million to the plaintiffs.
Yellowcard lead guitarist Ben Harper has left the group to devote more time to his indie label, Takeover Records, and related projects, the band announced in a statement issued Monday (11/7).
"Due to some ongoing tensions within the band, and some great new opportunities with Takeover bands which have recently presented themselves, it seemed time to take my experiences with Yellowcard and apply them to the development of other new artists and new music-centric media projects that I'm planning under the Takeover Records Entertainment Group umbrella," Harper said.
Yellowcard violinist/vocalist Sean Mackin said: "We've simply grown apart, personally and creatively, which can happen in any relationship. This change is hard for all of us, but Ben will always be our brother."
"Gay, Black and Married," a long-shelved disco concept album from My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, will be released Nov. 22 by Rykodisc.
According to a press release, the album was conceived more than a decade ago during a European tour, and was written and recorded during a non-stop 24-hour session.
The band resurrected the project over the summer, adding fresh vocals and "some new grooves," according to Rykodisc.
