Coldplay brings tour back to North America
Coldplay will return to the North American tour circuit in January for the group's second round of dates behind their latest release, "X&Y."
The British quartet is rolling out the itinerary for the trek's upcoming leg in a unique fashion, revealing one new date--along with ticket on-sale information--for every 33,000 visits to its new tour website, TalktheTour.com. At press time, nine shows were posted on the site, with 17 more remaining to be announced.
Fans who register at the TalktheTour site can enter to win a phone call from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, along with a front-row seat at a Coldplay show, a meet-and-greet with the band, and a seat at the 2006 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. Twenty-five runners-up will get the opportunity to speak with the band on a private conference call.
All who register on TalktheTour.com can view the online premiere of the band's Anton Corbijn-directed video for the new "X&Y" single "Talk," and will also be the first to receive information about pre-sale tickets for the tour's upcoming dates, according to the site.
"X&Y," Coldplay's third album, hit stores in June, and entered The Billboard 200 album chart at No. 1, selling 737,000 copies in the U.S. during its first week out.
The new set follows 2002's multi-platinum "A Rush of Blood to the Head." The group recorded and co-produced the new set in the U.K. with help from co-producers Danton Supple (Morrissey, Elbow) and Ken Nelson (Badly Drawn Boy, Kings of Convenience).
