U2's 'Vertigo' tour to continue in 2006
Currently making their second swing of this year through North America, Irish rockers U2 have announced plans to keep their sold-out "Vertigo" tour rolling in 2006.
After wrapping up their 2005 roadwork in mid-December, the band will take a break before resuming its world tour in February, with visits planned to Mexico, South America, New Zealand, Australia and Japan, according to U2.com. Specific details will be announced "in the next few weeks."
No word yet whether a return visit to North America is planned.
U2's "Vertigo" tour kicked off in late March with a round of North American shows that ran through the end of May. A summer run through Europe followed before the band launched its second round of North American shows in mid-September.
To date, the "Vertigo" tour has grossed about $256.5 million, and has played to more than 3 million fans over the course of 88 shows, according to Billboard.
The tour supports U2's 11th studio album, "How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb," which arrived in stores one year ago and debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 album chart.
On Tuesday (11/15), U2 issues "Vertigo 2005//U2 Live from Chicago," a live DVD set that features one disc containing footage shot during its May 9-10 performances at Chicago's United Center, and a second disc that houses bonus material, including a behind-the-scenes documentary.
