Korn maps initial tour dates as album release nears
Though details of a full-fledged tour behind its forthcoming album are still under wraps, Korn plans to launch the set with a series of live performances.
The group's itinerary currently features a half-dozen December appearances at holiday-themed radio-station festivals. Also lined up is a pre-release concert at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom, which is set for Nov. 29, one week before the band's seventh studio album--titled "See You on the Other Side"--lands in stores.
The Hammerstein was the site of Korn 's June 10, 2002 performance, which took place on the eve of the release of its fifth album, "Untouchables." That show was broadcast live via satellite to about 40 movie theaters around the country, and was later released in DVD form. No word yet on whether similar plans are in place for the Nov. 29 concert.
On Saturday (11/19), Korn will appear as the musical guest on "Saturday Night Live."
Due in stores Dec. 6, "See You on the Other Side" follows 2003's "Take a Look in the Mirror," and is Korn's first album without guitarist Brian "Head" Welch, who quit the group in February. In a statement issued at the time of his departure, Welch said that he had "chosen the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior," and would be "dedicating his musical pursuits to that end."
The group's remaining members--singer Jonathan Davis, guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer, bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu and drummer David Silveria--recorded the new set as a quartet, with Davis serving as co-producer, along with The Matrix and Atticus Ross.
"See You on the Other Side" features the lead-off single "Twisted Transistor." The group recently released a video for the cut in which hip-hop artists Lil Jon, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit and David Banner impersonate Davis, Shaffer, Arvizu and Silveria, respectively.
On Tuesday (11/15), Korn released exclusively via Apple's iTunes music store "The Other Side, Pt. 2," a digital EP that houses the "See You on the Other Side" tracks "Liar" and "Throw Me Away," as well as a live rendition of "Twisted Transistor" recorded in Moscow, and "b-roll" footage filmed during the "Twisted Transistor" video shoot.
"The Other Side, Pt. 1" surfaced on iTunes earlier this month, and features the studio version of "Twisted Transistor," as well as two remixes of the cut and the extended version of the song's music video, along with the "See You on the Other Side" cut "Eaten Up Inside."
