Tickets continue to sell out and dates continue to trickle in for hitmaker Billy Joel [ tickets ]'s 2006 tour, which marks his first major solo outing since 1999.

New to Joel's itinerary is another show at New York City's Madison Square Garden--bringing his upcoming stand there to five nights spread across late January and early February--and an April 5 engagement in Los Angeles, which is the first and, so far, only California date on Joel's tour route. Joel's winter tour marks his first major solo outing since his 1998-99 trek, during which he played for 1.1 million fans over the course of 64 shows, and grossed $47 million, according to a press release.

Since that outing, his major concert appearances have mostly been co-headlining dates with fellow singer/pianist Elton John. The two last toured together in 2003, and grossed $46 million from just 24 shows.

Joel's upcoming roadwork ostensibly supports the recently released "My Lives," a four-CD collection that chronicles his career "from his early '60s Long Island bar bands through his biggest hits to his most recent classical compositions," according to a press release. The set clocks in at more than five hours, and includes demos, live cuts, alternate takes, covers and more.
