Briefly: Stevie Wonder, Mary J. Blige, Wynonna, Jessi Colter
Motown great Stevie Wonder reportedly will perform three or four songs during the Super Bowl XL pregame show at Detroit's Ford Field on Feb. 5.
The Associated Press, quoting a representative of Motown Records, reported that additional artists will also participate in the pregame show. The NFL hadn't made an official announcement regarding Wonder or any other pregame show acts by Tuesday (12/6) afternoon.
The NFL previously announced that The Rolling Stones would perform during the halftime show, prompting some Detroit boosters to claim that the league was snubbing the city's rich musical history.
R&B singer Mary J. Blige has been cast as legendary jazz singer Nina Simone in a new MTV Films/Paramount Pictures project. It will mark her first leading role in a film.
Wynonna and Cowboy Troy will co-host "Nashville Star" in 2006, as the USA cable network talent-search show enters its fourth season.
LeAnn Rimes hosted the series in 2005. The new season is scheduled to launch March 7.
Groundbreaking country singer Jessi Colter will release her first album of new solo material in more than 20 years, "Out of the Ashes," on Feb. 21.
The set was produced by Don Was (The Rolling Stones), and features guest vocal spots by her son Shooter Jennings, as well as Tony Joe White.
The album cut "Out of the Rain," which was completed several years prior to the rest of the album, features her longtime husband Waylon Jennings, who died in 2002.
