Beat goes on for Matisyahu with new album, tour
Matisyahu , who is now in the home stretch of his 2005 tour schedule, will continue bringing his unique brand of Hasidic reggae to the masses during the coming year with a new studio album and more roadwork.
The artist, born Matthew Miller, has lined up a 2006 headlining run that is currently scheduled to kick off Feb. 4 in Phoenix, and dates for which so far stretch into mid-March.
Prior to tackling that itinerary, Matisyahu will finish up his current leg of touring, which includes stops throughout the Northeast in the coming week, and wraps up with a New Year's Eve performance on the West Coast. He's also scheduled to open a mid-January show for O.A.R. at New York City's Madison Square Garden, and will play a one-off date in Columbus that month, as well. Details are shown below.
Backing Matisyahu on stage are drummer Jonah David, guitarist Aaron Dugan and bassist Josh Werner.
On March 7, Matisyahu will offer up his sophomore studio set. Titled "Youth," the disc follows his 2004 debut, "Shake Off the Dust ... Arise."
In August, Matisiyahu issued "Live at Stubb's," a concert CD that captures his performance at the Austin, TX, venue earlier this year. That same month, he opened several shows for former Phish frontman Trey Anastasio, a fitting pairing; before dedicating himself to a Hasidic lifestyle, Matisyahu dropped out of high school and spent a year following Phish on the road while trying to find his place in the world.
