liveDaily Interview: Bow Wow

At age 18, rapper Bow Wow has the business savvy to put together a Christmas tour that he says will be his present for teenage fans.

The "Holladay Jam" tour features Bow Wow and his girlfriend, Ciara, along with Omarion, Marques Houston, Chris Brown, Trey Songz and Dem Franchize Boyz. It kicks off Dec. 22 at the Chicago area's Allstate Arena.

"Christmas is people's favorite holiday," said Bow Wow, born Shad Gregory Moss. "You ask any kid, any person, [and] they love Christmas. It's time to be around family. To be able to go on tour and be a part of [the fans'] Christmas and make everything happen, I think it's fantastic."

Bow Wow is touring in support of "Wanted (Reloaded)," a repackaged set that includes a DualDisc DVD with a mini-movie called "Big Dreams," as well as music videos for "Fresh Azmiz," "Caviar" (featuring Snoop Dogg) and "Like You" (with Ciara).

Calling from Tokyo, where he was filming "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift," the Columbus, OH, native talked to liveDaily about his re-released album, his role in the film and the tour.

liveDaily: You're filming "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift." How's it going?

Bow Wow: Great. Everything is going really good. Today's my last day. I'm kind of excited and ready to get back home. We've been here for two-and-a-half weeks, now going on three. It's hard to be overseas for that long--being away from family members and everything. I get the opportunity to go back home, which I'm very excited about. But I really like Japan. It reminds me a lot of the States. That's what made me feel comfortable here for those two weeks.

What character do you play in the film?

A hustler. My character's name is Twinkie. I also have driving scenes. I do drive in the movie. I get beat up in the movie, which was a crazy experience. That was new. I had to work with a lot of stunt guys and stunt coordinators to make it come out real. I don't think my fans are really gonna like that too much. I think some of them will--the ones who don't like me. They'd love to see me get beat up. The ones who really love me, they really care about me. It's all entertainment. It's all going to be fun. That was the main reason for taking this movie, just the fact that it was different. And I was a big fan of "The Fast and the Furious." I'm just happy that they contacted me to be apart of it. It's been a wonderful experience.

Plus it allows you to tackle an adult role.

Right, definitely. I'm just really excited. It's definitely really hot. A lot of the dailies we've been watching have been terrific and outstanding. It's going to broaden my fanbase as far as the film side--but with my audience and my ability as an actor, I'm just going to keep growing. I'm young. I'm going to be 19 years old in a couple months. I'm just trying to take over as much as I can. It's like a movie, and I'm a lead in the movie. I'm just trying my best to ride it out.

How did you choose the acts for the "Holladay Jam"?

Basically, we have a little bit of a formula for what we did for the "Scream" tour. One thing I do know is my audience. I know who my audience loves to see, and I know what artists cater to that audience. We still kept Omarion, which of course he definitely caters to that audience. Marques Houston, us three, we've been touring together for the past five years now. Ciara for several reasons. Not only is she talented, I wanted to pick her because we never had a girl. Being that her and I are very close--we have a very, very, very happy relationship--I thought it would be on the right foot to do that. She's never performed in front of the younger generation. Teenagers, they haven't seen her live. I was thinking that that will be hot. Then, with Chris Brown coming along--he's the young, new, fresh thing on the scene. He's been getting a nice response from the audience. I feel like a coach, because I do like my recruits. Me and my manager get together and do a lot of scouting. We want to see what the record sales look like. We want to see how it's moving on the TV and how the fans react to them. If we like them, we take them.

It sounds like you have an innate business sense.

I just have a lot of ideas, a lot of creative thoughts. I try my best to get them out there. Not just with myself, but the people I surround myself [with]-- management to people around me. We just come together. Me and my manager, we get together and we just start talking, planning and mapping out stuff, whatever sounds right. We go ahead and make it happen. It's definitely a hot thing.

Are the shows going to feature a live band or are they track shows?

You have to wait and see. It's going to be hip-hop.

Which do you prefer, acting or singing?

I like them both. I like the whole acting experience, because I get to get away from the music industry. But there's something about the music that always draws me back. I just love it.

Tell me about your songwriting process.

I write when I feel like it's right. I have some of my guys--my DJs, producers--send me tracks over. Then I write. When I'm alone, that's my best time when I'm writing. I don't have people rushing me to write. I don't like to be timed out to write. I write on my own time. I also do a lot of my writing in the studio

Why did you decide to re-release "Wanted"?

That was my idea, once again. I went to my manager and I said, "I really want to relaunch my album." Every album that I do--I don't know if it's this way with any other artist--but, for me, I'm always like, "Man, I wish I put that on there. Man, I wish the label gave me more time to do this." That's my main reason to do it. I got a chance to get back with Snoop. Me and Snoop actually did a video that you can only see on there. There's a remix version with me and Mike Jones for my third single that's out right now. There's a mini-movie from one of my favorite records called "Big Dreams." There's a lot of special features.
