Billy Joel launches tour, adds more shows
Billy Joel , who last weekend launched his first major solo tour in seven years, has penciled in two more dates for the run.
New to the singer/pianist's itinerary is a mid-March engagement in Washington, DC--his first and, so far, only planned visit to that city on this tour--and a late-March performance in Philadelphia, his fifth scheduled show in that city. Tickets for both shows are scheduled to hit the box office on Saturday (1/14). Details are included below.
Joel kicked off his current outing last Saturday (1/7) at the Ft. Lauderdale-area's BankAtlantic Center, and has played three shows so far, all in Florida. he makes a return visit to the BankAtlantic Center on Sunday (1/15) before heading to the Northeast, where he'll spend much of February and March jetting back and forth between Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Hartford, CT, cities in which he has at least three concerts scheduled.
A New York native, Joel has so far booked nine hometown shows at Madison Square Garden.
Currently scheduled to wrap up April 8 in Las Vegas, Joel's tour marks his first solo outing since his 1998-99 headlining run. During the interim, his major concert appearances have mostly been co-headlining affairs with fellow singer/pianist Elton John.
In late November, Columbia Records issued "My Lives," a four-disc collection that clocks in at more than five hours and chronicles Joel's career "from his early '60s Long Island bar bands through his biggest hits to his most recent classical compositions," according to a press release. The set includes demos, live cuts, alternate takes, covers and more.
In addition to the audio discs, the set includes a DVD of Joel's June 18, 1994 concert in Frankfurt, Germany. More details about the set are posted at his website.
