Korn lays out North American tour plans
Rockers Korn will back their platinum-certified album "See You on the Other Side" with a North American arena outing that will also feature Mudvayne and 10 Years.
The outing kicks off Feb. 24 in Korn's hometown of Bakersfield, CA, and is so far scheduled to visit 26 cities by early April. Venues for a number of stops were still pending at press time. Details are included below.
Tickets for most shows will hit the box office on Saturday (1/21), and fans who purchase tickets online will receive a free one-year membership to the band's official fanclub, according to organizers. Meanwhile, current members of the club will have early access to tickets via an online presale that begins Wednesday (1/18). More information is available at the Korn 's website.
The goth-metal outfit, which has frequently used horror-themed imagery in its projects, announced the tour during a Friday the 13th press conference at Los Angeles' Hollywood Forever Cemetery, at which the band members--singer Jonathan Davis, guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer, bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu and drummer David Silveria--arrived via a vintage hearse.
Immediately following the press conference, the group hosted a "Halloween in Winter Costume Ball" at the cemetery. More than 700 guests attended the event, including magician Criss Angel, Axl Rose, Good Charlotte, Avenged Sevenfold, Chester Bennington and Joseph Hahn of Linkin Park, Apl.De.Ap of Black Eyed Peas, Spider and Adrian Ost of Powerman 5000, actress Jessica Alba and others, according to a press release.
Released in December, "See You On the Other Side" is Korn's first album for Virgin Records, with whom the group signed a precedent-setting deal last year after parting with Epic Records. The band recently announced a three-way partnership with Virgin parent EMI and concert promoter Live Nation through which each party gets a piece of Korn's recording, publishing, touring, merchandising, sponsorship and other activities.
"See You on the Other Side" follows 2003's "Take a Look in the Mirror," and is Korn's first album without guitarist Brian "Head" Welch, who quit the group in February. In a statement issued at the time of his departure, Welch said that he had "chosen the Lord Jesus Christ as his savior," and would be "dedicating his musical pursuits to that end."
The group's remaining members recorded the new set as a quartet, with Davis serving as co-producer, along with The Matrix and Atticus Ross. Fueled by the hit single "Twisted Transistor," the album has sold more than 1.5 million copies worldwide so far, and was recently certified platinum, signifying U.S. shipment of 1 million copies.
