Matisyahu sets up more shows
Hasidic-reggae artist Matisyahu continues to roll out dates for a late-winter tour on the U.S. club and theater circuit that helps launch his sophomore album, "Youth."
The roadwork gets underway Feb. 4, and now includes a number of new February and March stops, including a trio of California performances that are part of the traveling Raggamuffins Festival, an event that pays tribute to late reggae legend Bob Marley.
Also on the schedule is a March 7 concert in New York City--the same day that "Youth" lands in stores--and a March 11 visit to Stubb's BBQ in Austin, TX, where last year Matisyahu recorded "Live at Stubb's," a concert CD that surfaced in August.
Details about all of the upcoming shows are included below.
Backing Matisyahu on stage are drummer Jonah David, guitarist Aaron Dugan and bassist Josh Werner.
Produced by Bill Laswell and Jimmy Douglas, "Youth" follows Matisyahu's 2004 debut, "Shake Off the Dust ... Arise."
"The song ['Youth'] is about making the transition from being an angry teenager to actually becoming a grown man or woman, changing yourself and the system around you," Matisyahu said in a statement posted at his website.
The site features detailed information about the forthcoming album, including a complete tracklisting and information about how to receive a free companion DualDisc titled "Youth Dub," which features non-album tracks, music videos, behind-the-scenes footage and a preview of an upcoming live DVD.
