Hank III readies two-disc set for February
Hank Williams III will release a do-it-yourself, two-CD album dubbed "Straight to Hell" on Feb. 28.
Williams recorded the album on a $400 Korg D-1600 digital recorder for next to nothing, according to a press release.
"We should have had ten albums out by now," Williams said in a statement. "I have so much music. Tape sticks around longer than I will, and I've got to put out as much music as I can."
Describing the discs, Williams said that "one's done right, the other's done wrong," One disc features "super pickers, the ones I can’t afford to take on the road," while the other is "just us--me and my road band--living it up, doing everything you're not supposed to do and having fun."
The stripped-down second disc contains several songs on a single track, including the Hank Williams cover "I Could Never Be Ashamed of You," which marks the first time Hank III has recorded one of his grandfather's songs.
Though a tour is in the works behind the album, the details haven't been finalized. Hank III is known for three-hour live performances that begin with an hour-long set of his so-called "Hellbilly" hardcore country songs. Though rooted in traditional country, he often integrates punk and metal into his music.
