Dinosaur Jr. walks the earth during spring tour
Alt-rock vets Dinosaur Jr. , who last year reunited for their first shows since the late '80s, have rolled out plans for a US tour that kicks off in late March.
The group launches the run with a trio of late-March performances in Texas, and will then spend much of April hitting clubs and theaters throughout the South, Midwest and West. So far, the schedule comprises stops in 21 cities, many of which the group didn't hit during its 2005 reunion outing. Details are included below.
Early last month, Dino Jr. recorded a two-night stand in New York City for use in an upcoming DVD. In addition to the live footage, the disc will also feature backstage and behind-the-scenes clips; interviews with frontman J. Mascis, bassist Lou Barlow and drummer Murph; and additional bonus materials. The set is due out this summer, though a specific release date hasn't been announced.
Meanwhile, some new material is in the works, as the group plans to spend the coming month recording at Mascis' home studio, according to a press release. No other details were revealed.
Last February, Mascis, Barlow and Murph announced that they were reuniting for a television performance and appearances at festivals in the UK and Japan. A North American tour followed.
Mascis, Barlow and Murph, who founded Dinosaur Jr. in 1983, parted ways in 1989, though Mascis continued to record under the Dinosaur Jr. name for several more years.
Shortly after the group announced its reunion plans, Merge Records reissued the first three Dinosaur Jr. albums: "Dinosaur," "You're Living All Over Me" and "Bug."
