The Fiery Furnaces heat up the club circuit
Indie brother/sister duo The Fiery Furnaces have lined up a slate of shows for mid-February and early March as the pair continue to support their recent album, "Rehearsing My Choir."
The Illinois-bred duo of Matthew and Eleanor Friedberger will kick off their tour Feb. 10 in New Haven, CT, then move south, hitting mostly small clubs and college campuses on their 18-stop outing.
"Rehearsing My Choir," the Furnaces' third studio set, was released in October. The album is a collaboration with the pair's grandmother, Olga Sarantos, and interprets her memories of life in Chicago across several decades.
The album, with its narrative scheme and unusual song structures, is something of a departure from the Furnaces' more traditionally indie 2004 release, "Blueberry Boat." The pair made their recording debut with 2003's "Gallowsbird's Bark."
The duo's Matthew Friedberger is planning on releasing two solo albums later this year. The two discs, tentatively titled "Holy Ghost Language School" and "A Miserable Life for Nieces," will be released at the same time and possibly bundled as a set, Friedberger recently told pitchforkmedia.com.
