R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe [ tickets ] has recorded a cover of Joseph Arthur's "In the Sun" for a digital EP to benefit Hurricane Katrina victims in New Orleans.

On Monday (2/6), six different versions of the track will be available via the iTunes Music Store, including a duet with Coldplay's Chris Martin.

Proceeds from the EP will benefit the non-profit Mercy Corps, which will direct the funds toward rebuilding devastated New Orleans neighborhoods.

The DVD will initially be issued as a limited-edition special digipack containing three separate discs: a traditional stereo soundtrack, a 5.1 Surround Sound mix by Kevin "Caveman" Shirley and a special features disc.
