Briefly: Madonna, Barry Manilow, Pete Doherty, Les Paul
Madonna 's publicist told RollingStone.com that Madonna probably will embark on a world tour this spring.
Spokesperson Liz Rosenberg reportedly said that Madonna isn't likely to make a final decision about touring until early March, but that "it looks good." Rosenberg added that if she does tour, Madonna's setlists probably would focus on her latest album, "Confessions on a Dance Floor."
Barry Manilow 's new set, "The Greatest Songs of the Fifties," enters this week's Billboard 200 at No. 1, marking the artist's first chart-topping album in almost 29 years.
Manilow edges out Mary J. Blige 's "The Breakthrough," which jumps two notches to No. 2 on the chart.
Tenor Andrea Bocelli's "Amore" enters the chart at No. 3, while Jamie Foxx's "Unpredictable" slips one place to No. 4.
Rounding out the Top 5 is the Tony Award-winning Heather Headley's "In My Mind."
Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty reportedly was sentenced Wednesday (2/8) to 12 months of community service in connection with a Jan. 27 drug-possession charge, to which he'd pleaded guilty on Jan. 27. He also was ordered to undergo monthly drug tests.
Guitar legend Les Paul was unable to attend his planned 90th birthday celebration in Los Angeles on Tuesday (2/7) because he was hospitalized in his home state of New Jersey.
According the Bergen County Record, Paul was admitted to the hospital on Friday (2/3) after X-rays showed that he had fluid in his lungs. He reportedly is in good condition.
"The worst is over," Paul said in a statement. "I am doing better. I am grateful to all my friends for their thoughts and will be back shortly making them laugh."
