Grammy-winner John Prine lines up roadwork
Fresh from his Grammy win in this year's Best Contemporary Folk Album category, singer/songwriter John Prine is now set to play scattered live dates through June.
Prine returns to the road with a March 3 gig in Knoxville, TN, and is scheduled to play well over a dozen shows in the coming months.
The veteran musician's new Grammy is for last year's "Fair and Square," his first release since 1995's Grammy-nominated "Lost Dogs & Mixed Blessings." He also was named Artist of the Year at last year's Americana Music Awards in Nashville.
"Fair and Square" marked Prine's debut as a producer, a job he shared with engineer Gary Paczosa.
"It was just time," Prine said of "Fair and Square" in a press release. "I had a bunch of songs. I'd started recording 'em, and it turns out, I liked 'em pretty well. So, now, I get to get 'em all just the way I like 'em--and then I get to let 'em go out to meet the world."
There are two additional Grammy awards for Best Contemporary Folk Album in Prine's trophy case, for 1986's "Tribute to Steve Goodman" and 1991's "The Missing Years."
