Glen Phillips back on the road ahead of new album

Singer/songwriter Glen Phillips , best known as the former lead singer for Toad the Wet Sprocket, will embark on a short tour in March, paving the way for the May release of his new solo album.

Phillips will play 11 dates in March, kicking off with a March 1 show in Tallahassee, FL, and wrapping up in Austin, TX, with three appearances at the South by Southwest music conference. The singer also plans to tour extensively later this year, though only three post-March dates have been announced so far.

Phillips will release his new album, "Mr. Lemons," on May 2. The album will be self-released, which Phillips claims is a conscious decision on his part.

"I am releasing my new record independently as part of a decision to shift from the insanity of the record industry to the manageability of a family business," Phillips said in a press release.

Phillips spent 13 years as the main singer/songwriter for Toad the Wet Sprocket, which chalked up the Top 40 singles "All I Want," "Walk on the Ocean" and "Fall Down," and the platinum albums "Fear" and "Dulcinea."

Since that band's breakup in 1998, Phillips has released three studio albums, including last year's "Winter Pays for Summer."
