Alice in Chains survivors plot reunion
Alice in Chains guitarist/singer Jerry Cantrell , drummer Sean Kinney and bassist Mike Inez reportedly will team up this summer for their first tour since singer Layne Staley's death in 2002.
So far, the group has confirmed a reunion show at Austria's June 28 Nova Rock Festival, which will also feature Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Tool and others.
The trio is also set to give a March 10 performance in Atlantic City, NJ, during the taping of an upcoming episode of VH1's "Decades Rock" dedicated to fellow Seattle-based rockers Heart. Singer/guitarist William DuVall of Comes with the Fall--and who is also a member of Cantrell's touring band--will handle lead vocals for that show, according to Cantrell's website.
Cantrell and Kinney have said they hope to play a number of additional North American dates this summer, and even alluded to the possibility of a new album, according to MTV, but no decision has been made about who will take over Staley's spot for those shows.
Since Staley's 2002 drug-overdose death, Cantrell, Kinney and Inez have given only one public performance, which took place a year ago during a Tsunami-relief benefit. That show, which marked the threesome's first time on stage together since 1996, featured Damageplan's Pat Lachman and Puddle of Mudd's Wes Scantlin and Tool/A Perfect Circle's Maynard James Keenan on vocals.
