Ricky Martin Adds Benefit Show To Fall Itinerary

A New York radio station has announced an "up close and personal" benefit concert featuring Ricky Martin Sept. 22 at the Theater at Madison Square Garden, a 5,600-capacity facility adjacent to the cavernous 20,000-seat arena that will host two Martin shows in October.

Event sponsor WKTU-FM announced Friday (9/3) that a limited number of tickets will go on sale for $50 each through Ticketmaster at 10 a.m. on Sept. 7. The station will also give listeners the opportunity to win tickets through the day of the show. Net proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to select charities, including LIFEbeat (The Music Industry Fights AIDS), Ronald McDonald House Charities, Save The Music and SHINE (Seeking Harmony In Neighborhoods Everyday).

Beginning Oct. 21, Martin will embark on his month-long, sold-out tour of large U.S. arenas. Martin's U.S. tour is book-ended by tours of Europe and South America, though according to his management company's itinerary, another three weeks have been blocked out for U.S. promotion in late January and early February of 2000.

Martin's self-titled English-language debut album, which has sold more than 5 million copies to date, is at #10 this week on the Billboard 200 album chart. He's scheduled to perform on the MTV Music Awards on Sept. 9.
